Job Summary
Farm Crew members are the foundation of Footprint Farm’s annual success. They play a crucial role in all aspects of food production including seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing, and packing produce. Each Field Crew member will have the same base of field and wash/pack responsibilities, with additional Roles to add depth to each person’s job description. Each Role has different levels of responsibility, experience needed, and some have specific time requirements so do not fit with all schedules.
This position starts out field work heavy in May and June, transitions into primarily harvest in July/August/September, and finishes with field clean up and high tunnel flipping in October.
All crew members are expected to participate in a mandatory training the first week of May, and are expected to participate in a rotating schedule of Saturday harvest help which is usually a 4 hour commitment, 2-3 times during the season, paid time and a half.

- Full-time positions are M-F, start time ranges from 7-9am depending on the season and days are about 8.5 hours
- Part-time positions are flexible and can be part days or full days, but must be morning shifts on days worked
- ”Shoulder season” work priority goes to returning employees by seniority
Position Period:
Flexible start and end dates. Must be available to start by April 28.
Compensation:
- Our starting minimum wage is based on the Living Wage calculated for a household with 2 working adults, no children in the Burlington metro area. That is currently $16.91.
- Raises are based on experience and performance.
- Wages are reevaluated regularly based on employees’ income goals
- 2% of gross income as a SIMPLE IRA contribution
- PTO commensurate with days worked
- Full-time employees receive 5 days of PTO, Part-time employees receive commensurate benefits ie if your schedule comes out to 3 full days/week you’d receive 3 days of PTO.
- Year-round employees receive additional PTO at a rate of .005/hrs worked
- Sick pay accrued at 1 hr per 52 worked
- Annual gear stipend of $100
- Produce
- Wholesale pricing on items purchased from other farms (meat, eggs, etc)
- Cost of Living annual raise for returning employees (we use the CPI to estimate COL)

The High Tunnel Specialist will participate in all aspects of food production including seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing, and packing produce. In addition, this position will be our eyes and ears in our 5, soon to be 6, high tunnels. They will be the point person for all high tunnel activities including, but not limited to, planting, trellising, harvesting, IPM (integrated pest management) and irrigation activities. They will also be responsible for daily opening and closing of high tunnels, and a once or twice weekly tunnel needs walk.
This additional Role of High Tunnel Specialist comes with daily responsibilities, so can be paired with most but not all additional Roles to add depth of experience to the position. This position may start as early as March with transitioning high tunnels from winter greens to spring crops, and should expect to be working full time by mid April/late April at the latest. All crew members are expected to participate in a mandatory training the first week of May, and are expected to participate in a rotating schedule of Saturday harvest help which is usually a 4 hour commitment, 2-3 times during the season, paid time and a half.
